WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) — Demand at the Salvation Army food pantry in Williston is growing as more people come to the oil patch city in search of work.

Salvation Army Maj. James Castor said demand has nearly tripled in recent months, from about 35 people a month to more than 90.

He told the Williston Herald that supplies could run out in a matter of weeks, and he’s encouraging the community to donate food.

Castor said new residents aren’t the only ones in need. He said as the cost of housing has increased due to a shortage, some longer-term residents are finding it hard to make ends meet.
