Official: N.D. ice still not safe

BISMARCK (AP) — The North Dakota Game and Fish Department is advising winter anglers to be patient this Thanksgiving weekend because ice conditions aren’t safe enough to support much weight.

BISMARCK (AP) — The North Dakota Game and Fish Department is advising winter anglers to be patient this Thanksgiving weekend because ice conditions aren’t safe enough to support much weight.

Water safety coordinator Nancy Boldt said temperatures expected to reach the upper 20s this weekend might entice some anglers to get out on area lakes. But she said it’s too early.

Boldt said North Dakota has had only about a week of temperatures that are conducive to forming ice, and that’s not enough time. She said a consistent stretch of freezing temperatures is needed to form solid ice.
