A long night of hockey ended the same way it started Saturday at Wilson Arena — tied.
Jamestown High School and Hazen-Beulah combined for a whopping 23 penalties — the lion’s share belonging to the North Stars — in a 4-4 draw in the home and West Region opener for the Blue Jays.
It was probably a fitting end to the 2-point game. The Blue Jays’ fired 42 shots at Colton Stiefel, while Tygh Yatskis saw 41 pucks in 59 minutes.
“It was an A-plus effort by our kids. They played well for the most part and they played really hard,” JHS coach Matt Stockert said. “The one thing I stressed to them afterwards is that we can’t be drawn down to that level, and that’s kind of what happened (tonight).
“If we play like we did against Grafton when we took one penalty, I think we leave here with two points instead of one.”
Jake Stilwell and Andrew Yatskis each scored twice for the Blue Jays.
Jamestown 4, Hazen-Beulah 4, OT
Hazen-Beulah 2 1 1 0 — 4
Jamestown 1 2 1 0 — 4
