BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — The North Dakota Housing Finance Agency says it has marked its 35,000th first-time homebuyer loan.

Officials say the housing agency has purchased $2.38 billion in mortgages since the program started in 1982.

The agency's homeownership programs provide reduced interest rate mortgages and assistance with down payments and closing costs. Participating financial institutions work with borrowers to determine eligibility and originate the loans. Once a loan closes, it is purchased by the agency.
