U.S. Agriculture Sec. Thomas Vilsack appointed North Dakota Farmers Union Vice President Elwood “Woody” Barth to the Cattlemen’s Beef Promotion and Research Board today. Barth is one of 40 appointments who will serve a three-year term on the board.
“Vice President Barth will represent family farmers while serving on the board, giving them a strong voice in agriculture at a prestigious level,” said NDFU President Robert Carlson. “Barth has many years of hands-on experience as a livestock producer so he understands the challenges ranchers face today. He also has years of experience in policy and leadership making him an incredible selection to serve on the board.”
The board oversees the collection of $1-per-head on all cattle sold in the United States and $1-per-head equivalent on imported cattle, beef and beef products. In addition, the board contracts with established national, non-profit, industry-governed organizations to implement programs of promotion, research, consumer information, industry information, foreign marketing and producer communications.
