What's happening for Dec. 9, 2010

Music/Drama/ Comedy

“My Song in the Night,” the Jamestown College Christmas Concert, is at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday at St. James Basilica. Tickets are $10 and are available by calling the Jamestown College Box Office at 252-3467, ext. 2435, or at the door.

The Jamestown High School Christmas Concert, presented by the choir and orchestra, is at 7:30 p.m. Monday in the JHS Theater. There is no admission charge.

The Jamestown Middle School Holiday Concert, featuring grades 6, 7 and 8 bands, is at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the JMS gymnasium. There is no admission charge.

Cody Guy Garrison, a 2008 Jamestown College graduate, is performing a guest piano recital at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Reiland Fine Arts Center’s DeNault Auditorium on the JC campus. There is no admission charge.

The Holiday Dance Revue, presented by the Top of the Stairs Dance Studio, is at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 20, at the Arts Center. Admission at the door is $5 for adults and $3 for students.

“Kidsummer Night’s Dream,” presented by the 2nd ACT community theater group, is at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Dec. 17-18, with a matinee performance at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 18. Admission is $5 for Arts Center members, $8 for others and $10 for Arts Center families and $16 for other families. Tickets are available at the door.

Special Events

Christmas in the Park is open from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 6 to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday through Christmas Day in McElroy Park. Admission is $2 per person or $5 for a car.

Around Town

Open Mic Night, with John Crowston, is at 7 p.m. Tuesdays at the Arts Center. Anyone interested in performing is welcome.

The outdoor skating rinks at Meidinger, McElroy, Nickeus and Leapaldt parks open Saturday. The hours are 3:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, noon to 8 p.m. Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Museums/ Libraries/etc.

National Buffalo Museum hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sundays by appointment. Admission: $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and AAA members, $10 for a family and $1 for children ages 6 to 18.

Alfred Dickey Library hours are 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday. To access the Story Line, call 252-7464.

Stutsman County Library hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The library is located at 910 Fifth St. S.E.

The Arts Center, located at 115 Second St. S.W., Jamestown, is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and by appointment Sunday. There is no admission charge. For a list of events, activities and classes, go to the website www. jamestownartscenter.org.

The Putnam House in Carrington is open for special events and by appointment by calling 701-652-2090. There is no admission charge.

The Barnes County Historical Museum, 315 Central Ave. N., Valley City, is open year round from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Admission is a freewill donation.

The Ronald Reagan Minuteman Missile Historic Site near Cooperstown is open by appointment only. Contact Mark Sundlov at 701-797-3691 for more information.

Art

“Anything but Ordinary,” an exhibit of area artists’ work, is on display through Jan. 10 at the Arts Center. The items, which include stained glass, ceramics, felted wool, paintings and jewelry, are for sale and artists will continually add new items.
