Optimist Club cites athletes for awards

Lexi Sveum, Brent Mittleider and Zane Braun of Jamestown High School and Jamestown College’s Pat Nord have been named Athletes of the Week by the Jamestown Optimist Club.

Sveum, a senior on the Blue Jay girls’ basketball team, scored 18 points on 7 of 12 shooting in the Blue Jays’ season-opening win over Valley City Dec. 4. She also had six rebounds, three steals and two assists.

Mittleider won the 140-pound title at the Knights of Columbus Invitational here Dec. 4. The JHS senior wrestlers went 4-0 with a pair of pins.

Braun, a sophomore on the Blue Jay wrestling team placed first at 152 pounds at the KC Invite. Two of his wins came by fall.

Nord, a sophomore from Enderlin on the JC wrestling team, placed second at 165 pounds at the Battle of the Rockies Tournament in Great Falls, Mont. Nord went 2-1, including a victory over the second-ranked 165-pounder in the NAIA.
