BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Burleigh County Emergency Management officials say they've taken calls from people concerned about a 3-foot rise in the Missouri River since Monday.
Corps of Engineers project manager Todd Lindquist says the agency has not increased releases from Garrison Dam upstream. He says the rise is because of the river's natural freezing process and ice conditions. He says fluctuations are expected throughout the winter.
Burleigh County officials are monitoring the situation and will start spring planning meetings next month. A Missouri River ice jam flooded part of southwest Bismarck in the spring of 2009. Officials used explosives to try to break up the ice.
