FARGO (AP) — The Salvation Army says someone dropped a gold coin worth $1,400 in a red kettle in Fargo.
Salvation Army Capt. Bill Mealy told North Dakota Public Radio that a South African Krugerrand has been discovered in a red kettle each year for the past seven years.
He said this year’s coin was found wrapped in a $20 bill.
Mealy said the gift gives a boost to this year’s campaign but donations are down about $18,000 from last year.
