What we think: Merry Christmas to all
Christmas is here and for a brief moment amid the shopping and last-minute preparations we have a moment to relax and enjoy the holiday. It’s time to appreciate the many gifts we have received throughout the year. It’s a time for togetherness with family and loved ones. It’s also important to take time and remember those who cannot be with us for one reason or another.By: Sun Staff, The Jamestown Sun
Christmas is here and for a brief moment amid the shopping and last-minute preparations we have a moment to relax and enjoy the holiday.
It’s time to appreciate the many gifts we have received throughout the year. It’s a time for togetherness with family and loved ones. It’s also important to take time and remember those who cannot be with us for one reason or another.
It’s a time to remember how Jamestown has helped those in need throughout the year and particularly during the Christmas season.
School children and many others have made donations to local food pantries. Donations made it possible for 32 children to go on a shopping spree with local law enforcement officers. A Christmas dinner was provided to the public and 400 meals were consumed. Benefits to help others in need are suppported by residents. These are only a few examples of the kindnesses in our community, kindnesses not confined only to the Christmas season.
The generosity that is there reflects on the kind of people who make up Jamestown. We know it’s a generosity that’s in communities all over the world.
We also know that Christmas may be difficult for some due to grief or loss. People are still suffering from the recession. We are still at war. Our country is in great debt. Amidst all these things and the shopping and preparations, we need to remember what Christmas is really about: peace on earth, goodwill toward men and hope.
Christmas is about marking the birth of Jesus Christ, whom according to the lessons of Christianity saved the world from its sin and taught that we should do unto others as we would have them do unto us.
From all of us here at The Jamestown Sun, have a very merry Christmas.
