For the episode, volunteers built a new home for Bill and Adair Grommesh and their two children, Peighton and Garrett. They also moved the family’s old home so it could be used by another family, Izja and Valdete Hajdari and their four children, whom were refugees out of Kosovo.
Bill and Adair Grommesh manage HOPE Inc., and have transformed the Moorhead-based nonprofit into a year-round program to promote independence for children and young adults with disabilities. Their 10-year-old son, Garrett, was born with spina bifida and their daughter, Peighton, has asthma, a congenital eye disorder called Axenfeld-Riegers syndrome, reflux, lymphocytic colitis, short stature and pancreatic enzyme insufficiency. She must take 16 pills a day so her body can break down, digest and absorb the necessary nutrients.
