Interstate 94 closed from Bismarck to Fargo

The North Dakota Department of Transportation along with the North Dakota Highway Patrol has closed an additional portion of Interstate 94 from Bismarck to Jamestown.

The North Dakota Department of Transportation along with the North Dakota Highway Patrol has closed an additional portion of Interstate 94 from Bismarck to Jamestown. At this time I-94 is closed from Bismarck to Fargo. In addition, the portion of Interstate 29 from Grand Forks to the Canadian border is also closed, resulting in all of I-29 in North Dakota closed due to blowing snow resulting in near zero visibility

Also closed is U.S. Highway 2 from Devils Lake to Grand Forks due to blowing snow resulting in near zero visibility. Roads are closed when conditions create a life-threatening danger to motorists. The roadway is impassable and it is against the law to drive past a road closure device on a closed road. Motorists should obey road closures, even when a sign or a gate is not present.

Other road closures and notices in effect for North Dakota and surrounding states:

* No-travel advisory is in effect for the eastern portion of the state due to high winds causing blowing snow. Motorists should be advised that roadways may be reduced to a single lane or become blocked by snow drifts at structures and sheltered areas.

Cities affected by the no-travel advisory include: Casselton, Fargo, Wahpeton, Hillsboro, Grand Forks, Drayton, Cavalier, Valley City, Jamestown, Edgeley, Napoleon, Linton , Flasher , Selfridge, east of Bismarck, Steele and surrounding areas.

* A travel alert is in effect for the Bismarck, Devils Lake, Dickinson and surrounding areas. Conditions are such that motorists can still travel, but may experience hazardous winter driving conditions due to winds causing blowing and drifting snow and reduced visibility. Motorists should be advised that snow drifts may be encountered at structures and sheltered areas and are encouraged to reduce speeds.

All travelers are encouraged to wear seatbelts, monitor road conditions, reduce traffic speeds as weather conditions occur and use caution while traveling.
