New 49ers GM has ties to Dakotas
FARGO (AP) — The new general manager of the San Francisco 49ers has ties to the Dakotas. Trent Baalke, 46, was a graduate assistant and defensive line coach at North Dakota State University in 1989. From 1990 to 1995, he was the defensive line and strength and conditioning coach at South Dakota State.

Trent Baalke, 46, was a graduate assistant and defensive line coach at North Dakota State University in 1989. From 1990 to 1995, he was the defensive line and strength and conditioning coach at South Dakota State. He served as athletic director at Fargo Shanley High School in North Dakota in 1997 and 1998.
Baalke, a two-time all-NSIC linebacker at Bemidji State, was promoted to 49ers general manager this week. He most recently had been the NFL team’s vice president of player personnel.
Baalke has spent the past 14 seasons in the NFL, working in the scouting departments for both the Washington Redskins and New York Jets.
