The Rev. John McGinnis will present a program, “The Power that Comes from Abandoning Ourselves to the Will of God” at 7 p.m. Monday, at St. James Basilica, Jamestown, in the Parish Center. This is the regular social/spiritual meeting of Tabernacle Society.

The lives of two American women, St. Frances Xavier Cabrini and Mother Angelica of EWTN, plus Blessed Teresa of Calcutta, will provide evidence of the results that come from putting God’s choices before personal preferences. Cabrini, a naturalized American, established schools, orphanages and hospitals. Mother Angelica established a worldwide radio and television network, and Mother Teresa brought comfort and care to the dying and ill in India and around the world.

McGinnis is a priest of the Fargo diocese. He is a parochial vicar at St. James Basilica in Jamestown where he has served for the past six years.

A late vocation to the priesthood, McGinnis was ordained in June 2004 at the age of 67. He attended Blessed John XXIII National Seminary in Weston, Mass., a suburb of Boston. Prior to his studies and formation to the priesthood he worked as a social worker in Philadelphia for 37 years.

The St. James Tabernacle Society invites everyone to the monthly spiritual/social program. Following McGinnis’ presentation refreshments will be served by Mary Magdalene Circle. The meeting concludes at 8 p.m.
