Leo Edward Albus, 80, Fargo, N.D., formerly of Carrington, N.D.

Leo Edward Albus, 80, Fargo, N.D., formerly of Carrington, N.D., died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2011, at Sanford Hospital, Fargo.

Mr. Albus was born Feb. 16, 1930, in Foster County, N.D., the son of John H. and Lydia (Schaffer) Albus. He grew up and attended school in Carrington. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1948 and was honorably discharged in 1952. He remained in the Naval Reserve while attending North Dakota State School of Science, Wahpeton, N.D., from 1952 to 1954. He studied lithography. He re-enlisted in the Navy in 1954. He served during the Korean and Vietnam wars. He was on seven different ships and served shore duty in Hawaii, Norfolk, Va., and San Diego, Calif. He married Sarah Greer in 1956, in Portland, Ore. She died in 1967. He retired from the Navy as a lithographer 1st Class on April 20, 1970. He received many medals, certifications and letters. He moved to San Diego and worked as a bartender. He moved to Fargo in 1980. He then lived in Mora, Minn., for a short time before moving back to Fargo. He was a member of Elks Club, Moose Lodge, VFW, American Legion, AMVETS, DAV and Senior Citizens. He did volunteer work for the American Legion, VFW, and Senior Citizens. He enjoyed sports, collecting, traveling and photography.

He is survived by a daughter, Sandi (Richard J.) Linehan, Elizabeth, Colo.; a sister, Janice Hardy, Maine; a brother, Leonard, Fargo; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife and parents.

Services: 1 p.m. Monday, Evans Funeral Home, Carrington.

Visitation: 9 a.m. until the service at the funeral home.

Burial: Carrington Cemetery, Carrington. Military honors by John Raymond O’Hara American Legion Post #25, McCreary-Bonderud VFW Post #3524 and the North Dakota National Guard.
