Optimist Club cites athletes for awards

Jamestown High School’s Kyra Dewald and Tygh Yatskis joined Jamestown College’s Amber Ramlo as this week’s Jamestown Optimist Club’s Athlete’s of the Week.

Dewald helped the Blue Jay girls’ basketball team pick up a West Region sweep over the weekend — taking down Dickinson on Friday and Williston on Saturday. She led the team in points (33), rebounds (13), assists (7) and tied for the team-high in steals (7). She was also 6 -for-6 from the free-throw line.

Schaack had six goals and three assists in the Jamestown girls’ hockey team’s wins over Mandan and Minot. She currently tops the state with 20 goals.

Yatskis recorded his first shutout of the season in the Blue Jays boys’ hockey team’s 6-0 win over Dickinson on Saturday. The sophomore goalie stopped all 18 shots he faced.

Ramlo, a sophomore on the Jimmie women’s basketball team, scored 31 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to help the Jimmies split over the weekend. The Jamestown native hit 10 of 15 field goals, including five three-pointers.
