James River skaters earn 23 first-place medals

The James River Figure Skating Club earned 23 first-place medals at two competitions recently.

James River Skaters competed in 20 events at the Magic City International Competition in Minot Jan. 8 and medaled in 18 of the events.

Eight different James River skaters earned top-place honors in Minot.

Emily Suckow and Kaitlin Mullowney — both Preliminary — earned a pair of firsts. Suckow’s came in compulsory and free skate. Mullowney’s came in compulsory and well balanced free skate.

Hannah Jorgenson and Cati Suckow — no test — also earned two first-place medals. Jorgenson in compulsory and spins and Suckow in compulsory and free skate.

Beth Jensen (Preliminary — artistic), Chelsea Huber (no test — well balanced free skate), Allie Strubel (no test — well balanced free skate) and Jayden Struble (no test — compulsory) also earned first-place honors.

Teah Mielke (no test) earned a runner-up finish in compulsory.

Paige Gellner’s (PrePreliminary) top finish was third in compulsory, while Caitlin George (no test) placed in a pair of events.

The competition featured 145 skaters from 16 clubs in North Dakota and Canada. James River skaters placed in 31 events total.

James River skaters collected 10 more first-place medals at the 1st Annual Capital City Championships where 140 skaters competed from nine different clubs across Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota.

Annika Tweten (compulsory, well balanced free skate, jumps — no test) had three top-place performances.

Morgan Huber (Open Juvenile) had the top marks in compulsory and well balanced free skate.

Gabby Tweten (no test) collected firsts in compulsory and free skate

Beth Jensen (Preliminary, compulsory) Christina Radi (PrePreliminary, compulsory) and Chelsea Huber (artistic — no test).

Sami Buhl (Open PreJuvenile) placed in three events topped by her second in well balanced free skate.

Paige Gellner had two seconds at the PrePreliminary level in compulsory and artistic.

James River Skaters placed in 20 of the 22 events, collecting 22 medals overall.
