SCARTA members discuss card party

Members of the Stutsman County Area retired Teachers Association met at the James River Senior and Community Center on Jan. 25. President Tom Norman welcomed the 20 members and opened the meeting.
Following committee reports, discussion was held regarding the card party, sponsored by SCARTA, that will be held on Feb. 6 at the James River Senior and Community Center. Publicity and posters invite the community to attend.
Further discussion was held regarding the location and dates for the forthcoming Retired Teacher’s State Convention to be held in Jamestown in 2012.
A scholarship award for a student entering the teaching profession was also discussed and a committee was established to assist in making the selection.
Following lunch, the program was presented by Beth Dewald, executive director of the American Red Cross’ Buffalo Valley Chapter. She discussed family disaster care packs, winter survival kits and doing CPR with the automatic electronic defibrillator kits, if available.
There will be no meeting in February. The next meeting will be March 22.
