Skipper finishes fourth, Ewalt sits in third

One bad break was all that stood between Sarah Skipper and one of the best total pentathlon scores Jamestown College has ever had.

The senior from Lewistown, Mont. failed to record a height in the high jump and as a result she placed fifth with a total score of 2,800.

Jimmie Coach Jim Clark said if she would have recorded a typical jump she would have likely finished with one of the best scores in school history.

Andrea Cota, of North Dakota State, won the pentathlon with a score of 3,108 and Megan Grey, of the University of North Dakota, finished second (3,026).

Skipper won the hurdles (9.31), the high jump (5-3) and the 800 meter run (2:27.69), while also finishing runner-up in the shot put (31-1.75).

JC’s Kallie Merrill nearly finished in the top five but Twila Moser, of UND, edged her out by 220 points. Merrill finished with a score of 2,559.

On the men’s side Josh Ewalt is sitting in third place in the heptathlon with three events to go.

Ewalt, a junior out of Miles City, is trailing North Dakota State’s Ted Rud (2,985) and South Dakota State’s Ben Jasinski (2,968).

NDSU’s Andy Lillejord, a Jamestown native, is sitting in ninth after having a similar day to Skipper’s.

Lillejord, after failing to get a height in the high jump, racked up 2,114 points.

The men will finish off the heptathlon today with the 60 hurdles, the pole vault and the 100, while the women compete in the Bison Open.
