Valley City ready to go with sandbags
VALLEY CITY, N.D. (AP) — Valley City has 125,000 sandbags on hand and ready to be filled should the city have to deal with another round of spring flooding.
VALLEY CITY, N.D. (AP) — Valley City has 125,000 sandbags on hand and ready to be filled should the city have to deal with another round of spring flooding.
City Administrator Jon Cameron told the Times-Record newspaper that the sandbags have been in storage since last year. He said a vendor also has submitted a proposal for more if they’re needed.
The Sheyenne River hit a record level in the city of 7,000 people in spring 2009, overwhelming the city’s sewer system. Officials used about 325,000 sandbags that year. Last year the water problems weren’t so bad, and the city in March scrapped plans to begin sandbagging.
