SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — The Chronicle of Philanthropy ranks retired Sioux Falls banker T. Denny Sanford as the third most generous American in 2010 with donations of $162 million.
The Argus Leader reports that he's given away $867 million in the past six years, most of it to the Sioux Falls and Fargo, N.D.-based health network that bears his name.
Forbes once listed Sanford's worth as $2.8 billion. He told the Argus Leader it's now around $500 million.
He made his fortune as owner of First Premier Bank and Premier Bankcard.
