A couple who spoke to the Dalai Lama's nephew before he was killed along a dark Florida highway says he was smiling and happy when they saw him, but they were worried about the fading sunlight.
PALM COAST, Fla. (AP) — A couple who spoke to the Dalai Lama's nephew before he was killed along a dark Florida highway says he was smiling and happy when they saw him, but they were worried about the fading sunlight.
Gary Collins and his wife, Damian Collins, told The Associated Press on Tuesday that they went to see Jigme Norbu on Monday when he was walking toward their wine and cheese shop during his journey to promote Tibetan independence from China.
The couple says they tried to persuade Norbu to stop and spend the night at their place because they were concerned he would be walking after dark.
Damian Collins says Norbu told her he had gotten a late start leaving St. Augustine on Monday and he was behind schedule.
