FARGO, N.D. (AP) — There will be no horse racing in Fargo again this summer.
State Racing Commission Director Winston Satran says the group declined a request for about $308,000 to fund three weekends of races at the North Dakota Horse Park.
The park closed last summer because it had about $150,000 in unpaid bills from the 2009 season. The Forum newspaper reports that the debt is nearly paid off, but Satran says the nonprofit Horse Race North Dakota group that runs racing at the Fargo park has little in its reserves.
Horse Race North Dakota President Mike Cichy (SICH’-ee) says race organizers agreed with the commission that there wasn't enough cash available to go ahead with Fargo races this summer. He puts the odds of racing returning in 2012 at about 50 percent.
