Former Red River hockey coach dies

A coach who led Grand Forks Red River to five high school hockey championships has died.

GRAND FORKS (AP) — A coach who led Grand Forks Red River to five high school hockey championships has died.

Matt Malm’s family says he died of a cancerous brain tumor Tuesday night.

Malm coached the Roughriders to nine berths in the state championship in his 11 seasons at the helm. His teams won titles in 2000, 2001, 2005, 2007 and 2009. He resigned after the 2009 season when he was diagnosed with the tumor.
