Repairs continue after Fargo power outage

Xcel Energy says repairs to damaged equipment that caused a widespread power failure in parts of Fargo and West Fargo last weekend are expected to continue for two weeks or more.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — Xcel Energy says repairs to damaged equipment that caused a widespread power failure in parts of Fargo and West Fargo last weekend are expected to continue for two weeks or more.

Xcel's North Dakota manager Mark Nisbet tells The Forum newspaper that repairs include a control unit to allow a damaged substation to be operated remotely. Technicians are monitoring the substation until the repairs are finished.

The utility is still working to identify the cause of the power failure.

More than 16,000 Xcel customers were affected by the outage that began shortly after 1:30 p.m. last Saturday. That's more than one-third of Xcel's North Dakota customers. Service wasn't completely restored until nearly 2 a.m. Sunday.
