No-travel advisory issued in extreme southern N.D.; travel alert issued for areas of N.D.
The North Dakota Department of Transportation has issued a no-travel advisory for extreme southern North Dakota for U.S. and state highways along the South Dakota border due to blowing snow creating reduced visibility and heavy snow drifts making travel dangerous.
The North Dakota Department of Transportation has issued a no-travel advisory for extreme southern North Dakota for U.S. and state highways along the South Dakota border due to blowing snow creating reduced visibility and heavy snow drifts making travel dangerous. Motorists should be advised that roads may become reduced to one lane or become blocked overnight.
Plows have been working since early morning hours and throughout the day and have been pulled from roadways in extreme southern North Dakota due to reduced visibility. They will resume operation in early morning hours as weather conditions allow.
Highways in the no-travel advisory include:
* U.S. 12 from the Montana border to the South Dakota border
* U.S. 85 from Amidon to the South Dakota border
* U.S. Hwy 83 from Linton to the South Dakota border
* U.S. 281 from Edgeley to the South Dakota border
A travel alert has also been issued for extreme southeastern North Dakota for roadways south of Wahpeton due to blowing snow creating reduced visibility and scattered snow drifts.
Other alerts and road closures:
* Interstate 29 remains Closed in South Dakota from Sioux Falls to the North Dakota border due to blizzard conditions making travel dangerous.
* A travel alert remains in effect for south west and south central North Dakota through Monday morning including the cities of: Dickinson, west, south and east of Bismarck including: Glen Ullin, Selfridge, and Napoleon. Conditions are such that motorists can still travel, but may experience areas of reduced visibility due to blowing snow and dense snow fog and could increase when meeting and passing vehicles. Motorists should be advised that areas of scattered snow drifts may be encountered especially at structures and sheltered areas.
