Skaters earn 14 firsts

Jamesriver figure skaters collected 14 first-place medals at the 14th Annual Red River Valley Classic in Moorhead Feb. 11-12.

They also totaled 10 second-place trophies, eight thirds and six fourths in the competition that featured skaters from 25 clubs in North Dakota and Minnesota. Jamesriver skaters, coached by Mark Vasarhelyi, placed in 34 of the 43 events they entered. In nine events they had two skaters competing, and in four of those both skaters earned trophies.

Jocelyn Blaire placed first in artistic, which earned her the right to also compete in the Archie Vraa Memorial Artistic event, which is open to skaters in preliminary through senior levels.

Libbie Allen placed first in artistic at the preliminary level and then went on to earn a fifth-place trophy in the Archie Vraa Memorial Artistic skate.

Emily Suckow also advanced after placing first in artistic in preliminary. She was also won compulsory and well balanced free skate. She advanced to the Archie Vraa Memorial and placed sixth.

Sami Buhl placed first in well balanced free skate in the Open PreJuvenile category. Also in Open PreJuvenile, Morgan Huber placed in three events, the best coming in compulsory where she was second.

Beth Jensen (preliminary) was fourth in well balanced free skate.

In limited PrePreliminary, Kaitlin Mullowney had a first and two thirds, while Christina Radi was first in compulsory and second in well balanced free skate.

Paige Gellner was second in artistic and Madison Ruzicka earned a second-place finish in well balanced free skate.

At the Beginner level, Annika Tweten led the way with first-place skates in compulsory and well balanced free skate.

Cheslea Huber (compulsory), Jayden Struble (test track free skate), Cati Suckow (compulsory) and Gabby Tweten (artistic) each earned top-place trophies.

Hannah Jorgenson (compulsory, artistic), Teah Mielke (compulsory) and Allie Struble (compulsory) each earned runner-up medals.

Caitlin George (compulsory, test track free skate) and Emma Bennett (compulsory) each placed third.
