BISMARCK (AP) — North Dakota’s exports grew by 15 percent in 2010, with machinery, crude oil and canola oil the leading products heading out of state.

The state’s exports last year totaled $2.5 billion, up from $2.2 billion the previous year. The Bismarck Tribune cited data from the U.S. Commercial Service, which is part of the federal Commerce Department.

Commercial Service state director Heather Ranck said Canada was the destination of nearly two-thirds of North Dakota’s products last year. That’s up from about half in recent years.

Overall, U.S. exports increased last year by 21 percent. North Dakota ranked 44th among the states as an exporter.
