The Jamestown Sun hands out these bravos this week:
* Bravo to the news that North Dakota produced 113 million barrels of oil in 2010, which broke the previous year’s record by 33 million barrels. This increased production means a serious boost to the state’s economy and tax collections.
* Bravo to Eunice Sahr, Jamestown, the NDSU Extension agent who retired this week after 33 years with the agency. Her most recent service was in Stutsman County.
* Bravo to Jill Anderson, the New York designer who grew up near Courtenay, N.D., and designed a dress for film director Debra Granik to wear to the 2011 Academy Awards. Anderson, whose parents live in Jamestown, runs her own business in New York and has accomplished much as an artist.
* Bravo to the Valley City State University Vikings women’s basketball team for its victory in the final Dakota Athletic Conference tournament championship game this week. The victory means the team advanced to the national tournament. Also, bravo to their competitors on the Jamestown College Jimmies team for playing hard and making it to the final game of the tournament.
* Bravo to Amber Schaack, the Jamestown High School sophomore who was named all-state for the second straight year after leading the hockey team with 37 goals this season.
