Mary Hafner, 85, Sykeston, N.D., died Tuesday, March 1, 2011, at Golden Acres Manor Care Center, Carrington, N.D.
Mary Jane Lukenbach was born March 15, 1925, at Tuttle, N.D., the daughter of Harry W. and Mabel (Thorne) Lukenbach. She attended country school at Tuttle. The family moved to the Hurdsfield, N.D., area in 1935. She married John Hafner on Nov. 8, 1941, at Sykeston. They lived on farms near Chaseley, N.D. and Dover, N.D. They moved to Sykeston in the late 1960s until entering Golden Acres Manor in 2008. He died Nov. 17, 2010. She was a member of St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Diana (Jim) Heidinger, Topeka, Kan.; a daughter-in-law, Bev Hafner, Sykeston; a sister, Nellie Whipple, Malone, Wash.; two brothers, Wayne (Roberta), Surrey, N.D., and Harry “Hal” (Pearl), Sykeston; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a great-great granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Terry; her parents; two brothers, Billie and Horace; and four sisters, Alta Brakel, Margie Hafner, Harriet Grant and an infant.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church, Sykeston.
Prayer service: 7 p.m. Monday at the church.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the church. Arrangements by Nelson Funeral Home, Fessenden, N.D.
Burial: St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Cemetery, Sykeston.
