One of the things The Jamestown Public School District is lacking is a strategic plan. At Monday’s meeting, the Jamestown Public School Board heard from one district on an example of that type of plan.
Administrators from Minot Public Schools told the board about its Balanced Score Card approach and discussed everything from planning to implementation.
“If you try to do too much sometimes you don’t accomplish anything,” said Dr. Steve Joyal, curriculum and professional development coordinator for Minot Public Schools.
The BSC approach starts with a mission statement, values of the district and the future vision of what direction district wants to go.
The district as a whole would have a set of goals in various categories and then use compiled data, through test scores or surveys to see where it ranks.
It would then figure out why or why not it met those goals and what to do to make sure it meets those goals in the future.
