Suspect in MLK Day bomb case waives bail hearing

A man tied to a white supremacist organization has waived a bail hearing on charges that he left a sophisticated bomb along a Martin Luther King Jr. Day parade route in Spokane.

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — A man tied to a white supremacist organization has waived a bail hearing on charges that he left a sophisticated bomb along a Martin Luther King Jr. Day parade route in Spokane.

The 36-year-old Kevin William Harpham was arrested Wednesday and appeared in court before U.S. Magistrate Cynthia Imbrogno.

He has been charged with one count of attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction and one count of possessing an unregistered explosive device. The bomb was discovered before the Jan. 17 parade and defused without incident.

Harpham will remain in the Spokane County Jail. He can request a bail hearing at a later date, or wait until a grand jury decides on March 22 if he will be indicted.
