N.D. elk, moose licenses reduced
North Dakota’s Game and Fish Department says it will make 501 elk licenses available to hunters this fall, a decrease of 60 from last year.
BISMARCK (AP) — North Dakota’s Game and Fish Department says it will make 501 elk licenses available to hunters this fall, a decrease of 60 from last year.
Officials say the number of licenses has been reduced in units adjacent to Theodore Roosevelt National Park because of a successful effort to reduce the size of the park’s bloated elk herd.
Game and Fish Wildlife Chief Randy Kreil said the effort this year and the possibility of similar results the next two years will dramatically reduce elk numbers in those units.
A total of 163 moose licenses will be made available in North Dakota this year, 10 fewer than last year. The number of bighorn sheep licenses will remain at six.
