Case of Iraq vet charged in N.D. rampage resolved

The case of an Iraq war veteran with a brain injury and post-traumatic stress disorder who was accused of going on a suicidal rampage in North Dakota has been resolved.

WATFORD CITY, N.D. (AP) — The case of an Iraq war veteran with a brain injury and post-traumatic stress disorder who was accused of going on a suicidal rampage in North Dakota has been resolved.

Twenty-eight-year-old Brock Savelkoul was accused of leading police on a high-speed chase and threatening a person in a Watford City convenience store with guns last September.

The Bismarck Tribune reports that under an agreement with prosecutors, Savelkoul will have three felony charges against him dropped if he fulfills several conditions, including that he remain in counseling until a mental health professional says it no longer is needed. Savelkoul also was given a suspended 30-day sentence on a misdemeanor reckless driving charge.
