FARGO, N.D. (AP) — The city of Fargo is wrapping up its sandbag-making efforts in preparation for major flooding along the Red River.
Operations at so-called Sandbag Central are scheduled to be idled at the end of the day on Friday. Officials say volunteers will have helped fill about 2.5 million sandbags since the first day of work on Valentine's Day.
National Weather Service officials are predicting a third straight year of major flooding in the Fargo and Moorhead, Minn., area.
Ten-year-old Conner Bosch was among the volunteers filling and stacking sandbags Friday. When asked why he decided to help, Bosch said, “Because my dad wanted me to.”
