BISMARCK (AP) — Gov. Jack Dalrymple directed government agencies to fly the United States and North Dakota flags at half-staff Tuesday in honor of Frank W. Buckles.

Buckles was the last surviving American veteran of World War I. He died in February at the age of 110 and will be buried Tuesday at Arlington National Cemetery.

Buckles enlisted in the Army at age 16 after lying about his age.

Only two WWI veterans are known to survive worldwide.
