FARGO — It turns out that sometimes the weather does affect mail delivery.
Severe winter weather and difficult travel hampered delivery Wednesday in North Dakota, South Dakota and northwestern Minnesota.
“Mother Nature’s latest blast is playing havoc today with mail delivery in the entire Dakotas district,” said Rickie Kunzweiler, manager of the US Postal Service’s Dakotas district, in a news release Wednesday. The district headquarters is based in Sioux Falls, S.D.
With a foot of snow in some areas, “deliveries are being attempted and Post Offices are open wherever possible. However, in some cases trucks transporting mail have been unable to reach Post Offices,” the release said.
Winter weather caused serious problems throughout North Dakota, some parts of South Dakota and northwestern Minnesota customers in ZIP code areas 565 and 567.
“We will remain open and will continue to deliver wherever it is safe to do so,” Kunzweiler said. “We appreciate the patience that has been shown by our customers during this challenging time.”
