Valley City to stockpile sandbags

Valley City will begin filling sandbags Wednesday in case it needs to build flood protection levees.

VALLEY CITY, N.D. (AP) — Valley City will begin filling sandbags Wednesday in case it needs to build flood protection levees.

Mayor Bob Werkhoven said there's a 50 percent chance the Sheyenne River will reach 19.1 feet and sandbags may be needed to protect some areas.

The Valley City Times-Record said volunteers can help fill sandbags Wednesday through Saturday and on April 4 if necessary.

City Administrator Jon Cameron said at least 50,000 sandbags will be filled and stockpiled.
