House explosion in Fort Yates injures 5

Five people including a baby have been injured in a house explosion in Fort Yates, on the Standing Rock Reservation.

FORT YATES, N.D. (AP) — Five people including a baby have been injured in a house explosion in Fort Yates, on the Standing Rock Reservation.

Sioux County Sheriff Frank Landeis (LAN’-dis) tells KFGO radio that the injuries were mostly burns. At least two of the victims were taken to a Bismarck hospital.

Landeis says officers at the Fort Yates police station heard the blast about 4 a.m. Monday. He says they rushed to the scene and got the people out.

The Bureau of Indian Affairs and the state Fire Marshal's Office are investigating the cause.
