Update: One dead in weekend shooting in Hankinson
The Richland County Sheriff's Office is investigating a weekend shooting death in the southeast North Dakota town of Hankinson.
HANKINSON, N.D. (AP) — The Richland County Sheriff's Office is investigating a weekend shooting death in the southeast North Dakota town of Hankinson.
Sheriff Larry Leshovsky (lah-SHEF’-skee) tells KFGO radio that 35-year-old Brian Smith of Hankinson was shot by a 55-year-old man in the driveway of the man's home. He says the two didn't know one another beforehand, and there was an altercation before the shooting.
Leshovsky says the shooter claimed he was acting in self-defense, and was not immediately arrested.
The shooting happened about 4 a.m. Sunday. Smith was pronounced dead at a hospital in Breckenridge, Minn.
