Mayo Michael Lies, 73, New Rockford, N.D., died Sunday, April 3, 2011, at Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd, New Rockford. Mr. Lies was born Aug. 17, 1937, in New Rockford, the son of Hubert and Mary (Seiler) Lies.

Mayo Michael Lies, 73, New Rockford, N.D., died Sunday, April 3, 2011, at Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd, New Rockford.

Mr. Lies was born Aug. 17, 1937, in New Rockford, the son of Hubert and Mary (Seiler) Lies. He grew up in New Rockford and graduated in 1955 from St. James Academy, James-town. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1956 to 1960. He married Carol Jensen on May 1, 1963. They lived in New Rockford. They later divorced. He worked for Schafer Machine and Pfau Brothers Auto Body, both New Rockford, and in 1969, opened Mayo’s Standard. He retired in 1995, moved to the North Dakota Veteran’s Home, Lisbon, N.D., and later to Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd, New Rockford. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Sheyenne, N.D., and the Eagles Club, New Rockford. He enjoyed bowling, fishing and playing cards.

He is survived by four sons, Rick (Nikki), Rochester, Minn., Joe (Tami), Fargo, N.D., Patrick (Denise), West Fargo, and Morgan (Lynnae), New Rockford; a daughter, Melanie (Jeffry) Romanoski, Kohler, Wis.; seven sisters, Ramona Klocke, Fessenden, N.D., Pat (Leroy) Krueger and JoAnn (Barry) McNett, both New Rockford, Shirley (John) Mayer, Richfield, Minn., Judy (Keith) Bartlett, Glenfield, N.D., Veronica (Richard) Lively, Napoleon, Mo., and Susan Vanderhyde, Savage, Minn.; a brother, Robert (Marjorie), New Rockford; and 13 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Jack and Hubert “Bud.”

Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, St. John’s Catholic Church, New Rockford, with the Rev. Bernard Pfau officiating.

Prayer service: 8 p.m. Thursday at the church.

Visitation: 1 to 5 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Evans Funeral Home, New Rockford.

Burial: Prairie Home Cemetery, New Rockford. Military honors by Raymond B. Thorn American Legion Post #30, New Rockford, and the North Dakota National Guard.
