DOT: Use caution when traveling in flooded areas
By: By Keith Norman, The Jamestown Sun
The North Dakota Department of Transportation and the North Dakota Highway Patrol are urging motorists to use caution when traveling in flooded areas.
The departments note barricades are placed when roads are closed due to safety concerns. It is against the law to drive past a road closed sign.
Motorists are advised to decrease speeds and increase the distance between their vehicle and others when traveling on wet roads.
Travelers should also be aware of swift-moving water that can carry a vehicle off the roadway.
Check conditions before traveling and be alert to ever changing conditions on the roads. The latest information available can be found by calling 511 or by visiting the website www.dot.nd.gov.
