Three plead not guilty in tribal fraud case in N.D.
The head of the Spirit Lake tribe's fuel assistance program has pleaded not guilty in federal court to stealing at least $1,000 from the program from October 2007 until the end of March.
GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — The head of the Spirit Lake tribe's fuel assistance program has pleaded not guilty in federal court to stealing at least $1,000 from the program from October 2007 until the end of March.
The Grand Forks Herald reports that Patricia Robertson, also known as Patti Cavanaugh, is coordinator of the tribe's Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program.
At least two others are charged in the case and have pleaded not guilty. Barbara Walking Eagle is the wife of Tribal Councilman Carl Walking Eagle. Brooke Black is the girlfriend of Tribal Councilman Justin Yankton.
All three women have been released on their own recognizance.
