JMS bands perform in band festival

The Jamestown Middle School seventh and eighth grade bands recently performed at the Big Muddy Band Festival in Mandan. The festival is open to bands in grades 6-12. This year there were 20 bands performing throughout the day.

The Jamestown Middle School seventh and eighth grade bands recently performed at the Big Muddy Band Festival in Mandan. The festival is open to bands in grades 6-12. This year there were 20 bands performing throughout the day.

Each band is judged according to specific performance criteria. Both of the JMS bands received Gold Awards, the festival’s highest honor. In addition, a number of JMS students were selected to receive Outstanding Musicianship awards, including: Harrison Coombs (French horn), Macy Kopp (trumpet), Kade Young (baritone), Hunter Braunberger (alto saxophone), and the entire JMS eighth grade saxophone section.

The JMS bands performed music by a number of notable composers, including Timothy Broege and W. Francis McBeth.

The JMS bands are under the direction of Ken Aune.
