Jan Barnes introduced Erin Haustveit, registered respiratory therapist from Jamestown Hospital to speak at the last Kiwanis meeting.

Haustveit spoke about the new Autobox for which Jamestown Hospital Foundation fundraising. Respiratory therapy wants to add this piece of equipment to its pulmonary function lab to help offer the community the latest technology in testing for breathing disorders.

Haustveit graduated from the University of Mary in Bismarck and went through the St. Alexus Program for respiratory therapy. She has used the Autobox in other hospitals and said she is confident it will offer the best for patients of Jamestown Hospital.

Currently, the department performs about 300 pulmonary function tests a year, which is high for a rural hospital. The lung function test presently being used requires the patient to remain on a mouthpiece for about seven minutes. The new piece of equipment will decrease that test time to about 30 seconds. It will also allow more accurate results for the physician. She said she cannot wait to offer this to the community.

President Kenrad Pederson led the meeting, which was attended by 22 members. Wes Hart led the group singing accompanied by Tim Burchill. Geri Krebsbach collected “Happy Dollars” for the new Pediatric Protection System for Jamestown Hospital. Key Club members present were Alexis Weng and Sophie Steinmetz.

DeLette Winkleman will introduce the program at the April 25 noon luncheon meeting at the Lantern Room.
