May is bicycle safety awareness month, according to the Jamestown Police Department.

In connection with its observance, police and Central Valley Health Unit will present bike safety programs in each elementary school.

This year’s program will review bicycle traffic laws and emphasize the importance of wearing a helmet.

From May 7-14, the Jamestown Police Department is selling bike licenses for $5. They normally cost $15. Bicycle licenses expire five years from the date of purchase.

The Jamestown city code requires all bicycles driven in the city be licensed. Unlicensed bicycles may be impounded until a license is obtained.
