Yankton wins Spirit Lake chairman election
Election results posted by the Spirit Lake Nation show that Roger Yankton Sr. is the tribe's new leader.
FORT TOTTEN, N.D. (AP) — Election results posted by the Spirit Lake Nation show that Roger Yankton Sr. is the tribe's new leader.
The unofficial results show that Yankton received 539 votes and his nephew Leander McDonald got 394 votes in Tuesday's chairman election.
The 64-year-old Yankton worked 20 years in housing and development and 14 years in human resources for the tribe. The 48-year-old McDonald is the academic dean at the tribal college.
Current Chairwoman Myra Pearson did not seek re-election.
