High waters force groups to cancel riverboat rides
A spokesman for a nonprofit group that operates a popular riverboat on the Missouri River near Bismarck says high waters and bad weather are keeping customers away.
BISMARCK (AP) — A spokesman for a nonprofit group that operates a popular riverboat on the Missouri River near Bismarck says high waters and bad weather are keeping customers away.
The Lewis and Clark riverboat is owned by the Fort Lincoln Foundation. Tracy Potter, the foundation’s executive director, said the group is already down $8,000 for the season from lost charters.
Potter says the foundation is “writing off” the month of May.
In addition to the lost revenue, Potter said there are added expenses. He said a new dock is needed because mooring posts for the boat are under water.
The riverboat attracts about 15,000 passengers a year.
The Bismarck Tribune said latest forecasts call for the river is expected to rise another 2 feet and remain there for the summer.
