Potato stocks up in North Dakota

Potato stocks in North Dakota are up 12 percent from a year ago.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — Potato stocks in North Dakota are up 12 percent from a year ago.

The Agriculture Department says growers, dealers and processors in the state held 3.7 million hundredweight of potatoes in storage on May 1.

Current stocks represent 17 percent of production, the same as in 2010.

Nationally, potato stocks on May 1 stood at 65.7 million hundredweight, down 27 percent over the year.
