Disabilities council seeks members

The North Dakota State Council on Developmental Disabilities is seeking five new members to fill upcoming vacancies on the 20-member council, which advocates for policy changes that promote choice, independence, productivity and inclusion for people with developmental disabilities. The council also supports projects and activities that maximize opportunities for consumers and families. The application deadline is July 1.

The North Dakota State Council on Developmental Disabilities is seeking five new members to fill upcoming vacancies on the 20-member council, which advocates for policy changes that promote choice, independence, productivity and inclusion for people with developmental disabilities. The council is seeking three consumer members, one parent member and one member who has lived in an institution or a parent/guardian of a person who lives or has lived in an institution. Each position is a four-year term. Applicants should be knowledgeable about issues concerning people with developmental disabilities and their families. Other desired qualifications include experience or interest in one or more of the following areas: quality assurance, education and early intervention, child care, health, employment, housing, transportation and recreation.

Each application is reviewed by a committee, and applicants that meet the qualifications will be invited to participate in a telephone interview. The committee makes its final recommendations to Gov. Jack Dalrymple, who will make the final appointments.

The council meets quarterly at various locations throughout the state and reimburses members for mileage, meals and lodging costs incurred while attending meetings and other sponsored functions. Accommodations can be made for council members with disabilities including materials in large print, Braille, interpreters and more.
